Child and Adolescent
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
At Northshore Redi-Med Psychiatry, we provide compassionate, developmentally informed mental health care for children and adolescents. We understand that mental health challenges affect the entire family, not just the child. Our approach emphasizes collaboration with parents, caregivers, schools, and other providers to support emotional growth, academic success, and overall well-being.
We offer evaluation and treatment for:
- Anxiety disorders
- Depression and mood disorders
- ADHD and attention difficulties
- Emotional and behavioral regulation concerns
- Trauma-related symptoms
- Social, school, and peer-related challenges
Treatment plans are individualized and may include psychiatric evaluations, medication management when appropriate, therapy referrals, and evidence-based lifestyle and behavioral strategies. Our goal is always to use the least invasive and most effective approach for each child.
TMS for Children and Adolescents
NeuroStar® Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation treatment that targets areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. NeuroStar® TMS is FDA-cleared for adolescents ages 15–21 with major depressive disorder who have not had adequate improvement with antidepressant medications.
TMS does not involve medication, anesthesia, or sedation. Treatments are performed in-office, and patients remain awake and alert, returning to normal activities—including school—the same day.
When might TMS be considered?
- Depression that has not responded to medication
- Difficulty tolerating medication side effects
- Preference for a non-medication treatment option
- Desire to reduce or avoid long-term medication use
In appropriate cases, TMS may be used in place of medication management or alongside reduced medication, depending on clinical judgment, age, and symptom severity.

- You will be involved in treatment planning and goal setting
- Recommendations are explained in plain language
- Progress is monitored regularly and adjusted as needed
- We coordinate with therapists, schools, and pediatric providers when appropriate
Our goal is to support not only symptom improvement, but also long-term emotional health and family stability.
Parent FAQs
Is psychiatric care safe for children and adolescents?
Yes. All evaluations and treatments are developmentally appropriate and evidence-based. Safety is our top priority.
Does my child have to take medication?
No. Medication is only recommended when clinically appropriate. We always discuss non-medication options and consider family preferences.
Will treatment interfere with school?
Most appointments are designed to minimize disruption. TMS treatments, when indicated, allow patients to return to school the same day.
How do I know if my child needs specialty psychiatric care?
If symptoms are affecting mood, behavior, school performance, or relationships, an evaluation can help clarify next steps and provide guidance.
